Start a day at Universal Studios Japan with what you want to experience, then decide which extra tickets to buy. A Studio Pass admits you through the park gates; Express Pass reduces waits for specified attractions; Nintendo guaranteed or timed-entry tickets address another layer of admission. Check whether area entry is required and what each package actually includes. This plan connects tickets, the app, children’s heights, meals and the journey home, with a shorter alternative for limited availability, rain or tired legs instead of an entire day spent chasing ticket times.
Choose one essential experience before deciding how many tickets to buy
Give Universal Studios Japan a full day rather than squeezing a few hours between shopping stops in Osaka. Ask each companion to name one priority: Mario Kart, Harry Potter scenery, or unhurried play with the children. Put optional activities alongside those essentials. This order helps establish whether Express is worthwhile and what to drop if timed-entry tickets run out, rain arrives or a child gets tired.
If SUPER NINTENDO WORLD is the sole reason for the visit, address area-entry entitlement when buying rather than waiting until Osaka. If you mainly want atmosphere, architecture and whatever shows are available, ordinary admission with flexible routes is a complete option when you accept queues and omissions. These visitors have different tolerances for uncertainty. “Express is always worth buying” is not a decision for everyone.
Check products in the official USJ ticket lineup, then fit the park into your three-day Osaka accommodation and neighborhood plan. Arriving the evening before and staying in Osaka that night usually protects more park time than rushing in from a flight or catching an intercity service after closing. Conditions below were checked on October 21, 2026. Confirm prices, events and operations for the actual visit date.
Studio Pass, Express Pass and area entry: three separate entitlements
Studio Pass provides park admission and use of ordinary attractions, subject to individual height requirements, operations and separately charged experiences. Express Pass is an extra product reducing waits at specified attractions; it does not admit you to the park by itself. Nintendo guaranteed or timed area-entry tickets govern access to a particular area and do not replace park admission either. A product called a “Pass” does not automatically include all three.
Distinguish guaranteed area entry from attraction Express access in particular. Products with guaranteed area entry identify the area and assigned time. After entering Nintendo, other attractions, restaurants or shops may still have queues or stop accepting guests. The official e-ticket explanation warns that area tickets do not guarantee every experience inside. Kinopio’s Cafe also requires its own same-day entry arrangement; area admission does not provide a table.
In the basket, check the date, passenger count, ticket type and coverage for every item. If a package combines admission and Express, verify both exist and share the date; if it is Express alone, remember the Studio Pass. Do not fill gaps with unknown QR screenshots or resold tickets. Give each person separate columns for park admission, area entry and attractions. A blank column means an entitlement you have not secured, not one that will necessarily appear on arrival.
| Item | What it addresses | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Studio Pass | Park admission and ordinary attraction use | Guaranteed Nintendo entry or short queues at popular rides |
| Express Pass | Reduced waits at specified attractions | Park admission or no queues everywhere |
| Guaranteed area-entry ticket | Access to a specified area under stated conditions | Immediate access to every ride or restaurant inside |
| Area timed-entry / lottery ticket | Same-day app-based area entry; a lottery must be won | Replacement of park admission or guaranteed lottery success |

One day, 1.5 days, two days or afternoon entry: start with usable time
The current ordinary 1-Day Studio Pass lists tax-inclusive starting prices of ¥8,400 for adults, ¥5,500 for children and ¥7,600 for seniors ages 65 and over. The general categories are adult ages 12 and over, child ages 4–11, and free entry for ages 3 and under. School-year transitions use April 1: a child entering junior high that April pays the child rate through March 31 and the adult rate from April 1. Check age on the visit date and product rules for other cases. These are not confirmed date-specific quotes, and multiplying a starting price by your group does not complete a reservation.
The 1.5-Day Pass starts at 15:00 on day one and from opening on the following day; a 2-Day Pass gives more room to distribute activities. Twilight Pass also begins at 15:00, which is different from expecting every popular experience in half a day. Listed adult starting prices are ¥13,600 for 1.5 days, ¥16,000 for two days and ¥5,900 for afternoon admission. Include another night’s room, meals and each day’s Express requirements when comparing, not just the ticket difference.
With one day, protect daytime hours rather than counting a slow breakfast, checkout and an intercity luggage journey as park time. With 1.5 days, the first afternoon could suit scenery and a meal, leaving more important rides for day two; check area-entry and Express rights for each day separately. Afternoon tickets suit people accepting a shorter visit. Check actual hours on early-closing or specially operated dates before judging the value.
2026 prices can change after sales open; existing tickets need no top-up
USJ’s June 30, 2026 pricing announcement explains that for visits from September 1, 2026, each date’s Studio Pass price can be revised with demand even after sales begin on July 1. Child and senior prices are affected too. If the price for your date changes after purchase, you do not pay the difference. Read this alongside the actual date selected; an old fixed high- and low-season table is no longer sufficient for every visit.
A practical sequence is to establish inflexible flight and hotel commitments, then check two or three dates you can really visit, comparing admission, hours and important closures together. Saving a few hundred yen on admission while paying another hotel night may not reduce the total. The official encouragement to check early reflects possible later increases; it is not a promise that every date and product is always cheapest when bought earliest.
Cancellation and date changes have separate conditions. The official rules allow date changes only for unused eligible tickets. Purchases generally cannot be canceled, with legal rescission or invalidity exceptions treated separately. Optional cancellation insurance for certain products does not make admission automatically refundable: eligibility, purchase and covered reasons require reading the policy. If plans remain uncertain, reduce the amount simultaneously committed to admission, Express and nonrefundable hotel rooms.
Choosing Express 4, 5 or 7: compare more than the number
An Express Pass number identifies the experiences specified by that product. It does not mean any four or seven rides across the park or unlimited use. The current official Express combinations have different subtitles; two Express 4 products can contain different attractions, and a slash may mean choosing just one of two. Mark the rides you want and everyone qualifies for, then compare total cost and guaranteed area entry before paying for more experiences.
For example, the currently featured Express 4 “トロッコ&ジュラシック・パーク” lists the Donkey Kong mine-cart ride, Yoshi, Minion Mayhem and a choice of JAWS or Jurassic Park—without Mario Kart. Another Express 4, “シアター&フライング・ダイナソー,” lists Mario Kart, Hollywood Dream’s backward version, Detective Conan 4-D and a choice of Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey or The Flying Dinosaur. Both say 4, but suit different visitors.
When checked, both examples displayed prices from ¥14,800. That is a starting price for the featured products, not one uniform Express 4 fare or a promise of stock. The ticket overview also has other lower starting prices; differences can reflect product, date and allocation. Do not apply the lowest advertisement to your chosen combination. If only one of four experiences appeals and the rest would pressure you or a child, choose another product or skip the extra rather than riding just to use the ticket.
| Product subtitle | Specified contents in brief | Decision point |
|---|---|---|
| Express 4: トロッコ&ジュラシック・パーク | Donkey Kong, Yoshi, Minions; choose JAWS or Jurassic Park | If Mario Kart matters, do not choose from the number 4 alone |
| Express 4: シアター&フライング・ダイナソー | Mario, backward Hollywood Dream, Conan; choose Forbidden Journey or Flying Dinosaur | Check intensity, heights and the choice-of-one condition |
| Express 7: トロッコ&セレクション | Donkey Kong, Mario, Yoshi, Forbidden Journey, Hippogriff; two further groups each offer a choice of one | More experiences need more walking and usable time |
| No Express add-on | Ordinary admission with available queues or services | Accept fewer rides; arrange Nintendo area entry separately |
Whether to buy Express: turn queue tolerance into a shorter plan
If you have one park day, several definite popular-ride priorities and difficulty standing for long periods, compare an Express combination that meets those needs. Visitors mainly interested in scenery, meals or time with young children may not need a high-count product. Assume ordinary queues will be longer than expected and ask whether completing one main ride would still satisfy you. If so, the extra-ticket budget could buy more comfortable accommodation or another day’s activities.
Express does not mean a zero-minute wait. The official terms state that seats, time slots, allocation and busy-period crowds may still cause waiting. Use is personal, on the specified date and attractions; companions cannot borrow one pass in turn. Between consecutive slots, allow time to leave the ride, use bathrooms, walk to the next area and regroup. Adding only ride durations does not create a workable schedule.
Family members can make different choices about intense rides without sharing one Express Pass. If someone will not ride, clarify companion and area-entry arrangements before buying. Guaranteed area entry is generally tied to each person’s entitlement, not permission for one purchaser to bring everyone. Agree both a together plan and a split-group plan with someone resting alongside the children, rather than letting prepaid tickets become the reason for an argument in the park.
Check dates, group slots and the complete QR ticket before paying
For ordinary admission tickets, check the USJ WEB Ticket Store presale FAQ: sales generally open three months before your intended visit, although some ticket types have different release dates, so check each product’s sales page. This general window is separate from the Express sales period. The official Express page says sales generally start about two months before the visit: a prompt to check early, not a guarantee every product appears at precisely the same instant. Read the product and that date’s closures together. Buy for companions in the same transaction where possible, since separate purchases can produce different experience times. A sellout does not entitle you to extra allocation. Do not buy the wrong date in a rush and expect to convert it later.
Bring the complete QR ticket showing its full contents. The official instructions explicitly prohibit cropping down to the QR square: staff also need the ticket type and assigned times. Each person has their own QR; several people cannot use one code. Save the complete screen or print it as officially instructed, keeping the confirmation and inquiry number separately. Those records help check a purchase if a phone fails; they do not justify altering the ticket.
If the official site has no suitable tickets, check its listed sales channels or partner hotels for the same product; same-day sales also end when sold out. Similar names on different platforms do not establish identical packages. Compare admission, guaranteed area entry, ride choices, times and change or refund conditions item by item. Distinguish a card charge, an order confirmation and a usable ticket. Check the existing order after an error rather than panic-buying two sets.
Nintendo entry: guarantees, timed tickets and lotteries carry different risks
To reduce the risk of missing Nintendo before arrival, choose an Express or official travel package explicitly including guaranteed area entry. Not every Express product does. The official advance-guarantee routes include relevant Express products, Universal Travel and designated travel packages. The entitlement has a particular date, time and conditions. It does not provide early park admission or repeated entry to the area throughout the day.
Same-day timed area-entry tickets depend on park conditions. Once allocation reaches its limit, lottery tickets may replace them, or issuance may stop. The current Nintendo-area announcement states that from January 5, 2026, timed-entry and lottery tickets are issued only through the official app. Do not rely on older reports promising a paper-ticket machine. If unrestricted entry is allowed that day, follow current staff and app instructions; early arrival alone does not guarantee access.
Obtaining a timed-entry ticket differs from successfully submitting a lottery request. Only lottery winners can enter during their assigned time. Prepare an alternative before the trip for an unsuccessful result: Harry Potter scenery, other rides selected by height, or an earlier city dinner. If missing Nintendo is unacceptable, resolve the guarantee when buying instead of making the entire day depend on a free lottery.
App step one: register everyone’s admission tickets before traveling
Install and update the official USJ app. Check that it opens and that you can understand its language and screens, then follow the official timed-entry instructions to register the QR from that day’s Studio Pass or annual pass. You can register the whole group. Preparing over a stable hotel connection is easier than downloading at the security queue. Registering admission only prepares the data; it does not obtain a Nintendo timed-entry ticket.
Choose one person to manage the app and let everyone verify that names or labels match their tickets, with an agreed meeting method. Do not register an attraction Express QR as a Studio Pass or use a screenshot of uncertain ownership. Official-site purchases through a Club Universal account have a separate sign-in import procedure. Codes may sit in different places for other sellers, so follow the original ticket and seller’s explanation.
The official instructional video helps explain registration, passenger selection and display order. Actual issuance depends on the latest app and that day’s conditions. Stop somewhere safe to operate it rather than watching the screen while walking. Carry a power bank, and let another companion retain their purchase records and meeting details too. That is equipment backup, not duplication of timed-entry tickets or permission to impersonate another holder.
App step two: enter the park together, then choose an area and shared slot
The official rules require valid same-day admission to have been scanned at the main gates, and e-tickets can only be obtained inside the park. Registration before arrival is possible; obtaining the day’s timed-entry ticket from the hotel is not. Once everyone is inside, stop to select the area, group members and an available time in the app. Request everyone’s tickets together so a successful result does not leave someone off the list.
After issuance, check whether it is timed entry or a lottery ticket, and verify area, date, count and time. Current instructions allow area timed-entry or lottery tickets to be issued only once per day. Afterward, you cannot change time, count or area, cancel, transfer or sell them. Do not pick a random slot expecting to choose again later. If you already hold timed Express experiences, place both sets of requirements on one schedule before selecting.
For the lottery, the site requires issuance at least one hour before the desired entry time and stops issuance no later than three hours before park closing. Winners are not selected by order of issuance. These are current conditions, not evidence that slots always remain late in the day. A submitted lottery request is not a reason to book a meal you can only reach inside the area. Check the result before planning onward, and use a winning ticket only in its assigned window.
App errors or a flat battery: check gate scans before reinstalling
If the app says a ticket cannot obtain e-tickets, check whether its holder is actually through the gates, every ticket scanned correctly and the registered admission is valid today. The official instructions say an incorrectly read gate ticket cannot obtain an e-ticket. Explain that to staff rather than repeatedly making new groups. If the group is incomplete, match people and tickets first; do not leave out a child while rushing for a slot.
Do not uninstall the app as a quick fault fix after obtaining a timed-entry ticket. The site states that uninstalling before use invalidates issued e-tickets. Seek staff help and preserve the current screen. Signing out or reinstalling may work elsewhere but is not a universal solution here. Test phone and power-bank charging cables before departure so you can display the necessary ticket when its time arrives.
If the allocation is simply full, switch to the plan without Nintendo entry. Editing an image, borrowing a code or buying a stranger’s timed-entry ticket is not a remedy. Even inside the area, the operator does not promise every restaurant, photo opportunity, shop and ride still accepts guests. One main experience with optional walking is easier to complete than a chain of commitments each relying on the last available minute.
Measure children first: tickets do not override safety requirements
Admission age categories and ride-height requirements are separate. A child ticket does not make every children’s attraction suitable, and an adult buying Express can still fail height or other conditions. Measure at home before purchasing, then choose using the current official height chart. Borderline cases require confirmation on site, not thick-soled shoes or headwear to make a measurement look sufficient.
Mario Kart and the Donkey Kong mine-cart ride require at least 107 cm. Children from 107 cm to under 122 cm need a companion who meets the rules. Yoshi requires at least 92 cm, with accompaniment from 92 cm to under 122 cm too. A 105 cm child who loves Mario may therefore enjoy scenery and Yoshi rather than an Express product centered on racing and mine carts. Choosing from the actual height is easier than persuading a child to abandon an already paid-for experience.
The table covers only several thresholds that often affect purchases, not complete health requirements or permission to ride. Companions must also qualify. For example, Yoshi defines a companion as someone at least Japanese junior-high-school age who meets usage conditions and can respond appropriately, physically and mentally. If concerned about intensity, body fit or transferring from a wheelchair, read individual rules and ask staff. Having a companion does not waive every other restriction.
| Attraction | Height threshold | Accompaniment or additional upper limit |
|---|---|---|
| Mario Kart | 107 cm or taller | Children from 107 cm to under 122 cm need a companion |
| Donkey Kong mine-cart ride | 107 cm or taller | Children from 107 cm to under 122 cm need a companion |
| Yoshi’s Adventure | 92 cm or taller | Children from 92 cm to under 122 cm need a companion |
| Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey | 122 cm or taller | Check individual requirements too |
| Flight of the Hippogriff | 92–195 cm | Children from 92 cm to under 122 cm need a companion |
| The Flying Dinosaur | 132–198 cm | Check intensity, restraints and other requirements |

Child Switch, Single Rider and accessibility support do not permit shared passes
If someone cannot ride because of height or another restriction, Child Switch lets eligible caregivers take turns after one wait. It addresses supervision and taking turns, not leaving a child alone outside the queue or sharing one adult Express Pass. Explain to staff at the entrance who will ride, who will supervise and what paid tickets you have so the handover is clear.
Single Rider fills individual empty seats. Companions are assigned separately, with no promise of sitting together, and the service can be suspended. It suits people independently meeting the requirements who accept separate experiences, not children needing accompaniment. If your family’s priority is doing something together, do not sacrifice it for a potentially shorter wait. Single Rider eligibility is also separate from Express.
For wheelchairs, strollers or difficulty standing, read USJ’s current accessibility services before selecting rides. Guest Support Pass lets eligible guests spend the normal waiting time outside the queue; it is not a no-wait pass. The park confirms documentation and applicability. Although Yoshi’s individual rules describe wheelchair use, they retain conditions involving chair shape, a possible switch to a designated wheelchair, accompaniment and emergency evacuation. One accessible experience does not establish direct boarding in your own chair everywhere.
Check closures before turning theme preferences into a route
Nintendo can connect game scenery, Mario and Donkey Kong in one part of the day. Harry Potter offers two kinds of goals: seeing Hogwarts Castle’s exterior and the themed scenery, or riding Forbidden Journey or Flight of the Hippogriff. According to the official Harry Potter area-entry guide, park admission requires a separate Studio Pass, and a timed entry ticket may be needed for the area on busy days. Check the day’s information at the area entrance to see whether entry without one is possible; admission to the area does not guarantee a ride. To ride Forbidden Journey, you must also meet its minimum height requirement of 122 cm. Jurassic’s Flying Dinosaur has a higher height threshold. These three intense ride groups should not be the only plan for young children; select time in currently open Wonderland or other age-appropriate attractions. Ask what you want to see and what everyone can ride, then connect meals and rest.
Open the official show and attraction closure page before each purchase. When checked, Sesame Street Fun World and its attractions were listed as permanently closed on May 10, 2026. Do not keep them as essentials from an older family trip report. WaterWorld separately announces a closure from November 28 to December 25, 2026. If that show is the main goal, choose another date or accept its omission before buying, rather than discovering afterward that the entire period is unavailable.
Use the map to understand areas, ride exits, bathrooms and distances to the next slot, not to check off every zone. Navigate with the official app and routes open that day, following local instructions for crowd controls. If Mario and Harry Potter are the main goals, protect those two blocks and a meal, with other areas optional. That leaves room when an attraction pauses, instead of crossing the whole park merely to collect area names.
Three ways to plan one day: follow assigned slots instead of fixed itinerary times
With guaranteed Nintendo entry and Express, sketch area-entry time, assigned attractions and the latest departure first. Fit nearby food into the gaps. If fixed appointments sit in the morning and late afternoon, another themed area can go between them; do not insert a distant long queue between closely spaced bookings. Walking and regrouping margins belong in the plan. You cannot rely on always making the final minute.
For adults without Express, finish necessary app tasks after entering, choose a main ride and decide on a second from actual waits. Protect a complete meal around midday and finish with another area’s scenery or an available show. If Nintendo timed entry offers no suitable slot, substitute Harry Potter, Jurassic or another eligible option, rather than shifting every queue toward closing. Completing priorities is the measure of success, not the total ride count.
With young children or older relatives, build food, bathrooms and seated rest into the route, splitting off intense rides only for willing, eligible guests. Recheck energy after each block; drop evening activities or return to the hotel earlier when needed. Morning enthusiasm does not mean everyone can walk through two more areas by evening. Prepaid extras cannot replace rest or justify pressuring an unwell person to keep riding.
From Osaka Station or Namba: the destination is JR Universal City
Recognize both “ユニバーサルシティ” and Universal City rather than entering the whole Osaka waterfront as your destination. USJ’s current rail map uses Nishikujo as a key connection. Check the actual train from Osaka Station; if it does not run through to the Yumesaki Line, change at Nishikujo toward Sakurajima and continue to Universal City. The map’s roughly 5 minutes from Nishikujo and 11 minutes from Osaka describe train travel, excluding hotel-to-platform walking, waiting and park entry afterward.
Namba is not one station. Near Osaka-Namba, compare the Hanshin Namba Line to Nishikujo followed by JR. Near JR Namba, look up JR via Imamiya onto the Osaka Loop Line, then change at Nishikujo for the Yumesaki Line. Locate your hotel’s nearest entrance first, instead of walking a long way underground to chase a shorter advertised ride. Hanshin and JR have distinct gates and fares; do not treat the whole route as one company’s single ticket.
Check the return from Universal City toward Nishikujo and later transfers before visiting, rather than saving only the outward screenshot. Osaka Station, Namba and Tennoji need different final connections; include elevator routes with a stroller. Ordinary visitors should follow Park entrance signs after leaving the station, not search results for the staff-related North Gate entrance. During rail disruption, check the operator’s current notice before waiting, rerouting or leaving earlier. A taxi is not guaranteed to be immediately available.
Arrival days, departure days and luggage: airport transfers are not ride time
After an international flight come immigration, baggage collection, transport and storage. An airport-to-Universal City figure on a route map is not time from the aircraft door to a ride entrance. From Kansai Airport, plan arrival using the guide to trains into Osaka and hotel connections. If afternoon is the earliest realistic park arrival, assess an afternoon ticket for a shorter visit rather than buying a long sequence of morning slots.
USJ’s prohibited-items rules exclude suitcases and other large luggage; strollers, wheelchairs and necessary walking aids follow their separate rules. Do not arrive at security with a cabin suitcase before looking for an empty locker. Ask the hotel about storage and collection hours first, or plan storage at your original station. The operator says to ask staff about items too large for lockers; that does not promise free or unlimited storage.
For a flight that same day, work backward from airport check-in and luggage requirements. Do not place the final Express ride at a departure time that only just catches transport. A complete day between overnight stays is preferable. If a travel day is the only option, accept a shorter version and fewer nonrefundable timed commitments. Decide how much loss from a flight delay you could tolerate, rather than assuming the park will amend every ticket for transport delays.
Universal City or central Osaka? Convenience does not automatically mean early entry
Compare Universal City if USJ is central to the trip, you have young children or you want fewer transfers after closing. Staying in the city can avoid moving bags if most days involve Osaka dining and shopping or a Kyoto trip. The official partner-hotel categories distinguish near-park Official Hotels from other city partnerships. Similar “partner” labels do not establish the same location or sales services, and “official” does not always mean walkable to the gate.
The list places The Park Front Hotel directly in front of the main entrance and describes The Singulari as directly connected to the station. One favors the gate-to-hotel route, the other the rail connection; compare the actual luggage and late-return journey. Check beds, bed-sharing children, breakfast start and storage. Compare rooms for the same date, occupancy and cancellation terms, rather than assuming one hotel is always cheapest. Continue with the tradeoffs between Umeda, Namba and other Osaka bases for city options.
A hotel stay alone does not include Nintendo guarantees, Express or early park entry. Count only benefits stated in the package, rechecking visit date, party size, collection and cancellation. Do not invent benefits absent from an ordinary room rate. A nearby hotel also does not let an ordinary ticket holder leave for a midday nap and return: assess the re-entry rules below. A room allowing everyone proper rest usually offers more than an unverified promotional promise.
Kinopio’s Cafe: arrange area entry before handling same-day restaurant access
Plan Kinopio’s Cafe using its current official information alongside the Nintendo part of the day. The site says same-day entry requests are taken at the restaurant; do not apply another restaurant’s online priority-seating procedure. An area timed-entry ticket covers the area, not this meal. Even with a nearby assigned ride, avoid placing it immediately after an uncertain dining wait without a margin.
When checked, the menu listed Mario’s bacon cheeseburger at ¥2,600, Yoshi’s spinach carbonara at ¥2,500 and the Super Mushroom pizza bowl at ¥1,900. The ¥1,800 children’s burger meal is for ages 11 and under; the ¥1,400 children’s curry is for ages 6 and under. Admission and children’s meals use different age limits. These are current official tax-inclusive menu prices, subject to changes or sellouts, not a guarantee every item will be available on your date.
Choose food for appetite and rest rather than ordering every photogenic dish. If the restaurant has no suitable time, keep some Nintendo walking and move the main meal to another confirmed open area. Do not spend the entire family afternoon pursuing one table. List souvenir drink bottles, popcorn buckets and Power-Up Bands separately as shopping costs, rather than treating souvenir-container prices as minimum hydration or food spending.
Three Broomsticks and priority seating: restaurant rules are not interchangeable
In the Harry Potter area, compare the current Three Broomsticks menu. The official menu checked lists fish and chips at ¥2,600, smoked chicken with shepherd’s pie at ¥3,000 and nonalcoholic Butterbeer at ¥900. The four-person Great Feast is ¥10,000, about ¥2,500 each for the main meal if split four ways; drinks, extras and appetites remain separate. Choose it for a seated meal in the setting, not on the assumption one drink replaces everyone’s main meal.
For advance dining times, see the official restaurant priority-seating service. It currently lists only Park Side Grille and SAIDO, excluding Kinopio’s Cafe and Three Broomsticks. It provides priority in seating, not a guaranteed particular table, dish or zero wait. Advance requests open one month before use at 11:00 and close 24 hours before the dining time. If the previous month has no corresponding date, requests start on the first of the visit month. Same-day requests begin at the restaurant at 9:00, subject to availability.
After choosing a priority slot, the whole party must check in within the stated time window; arriving late can trigger automatic cancellation. This arrangement is separate from Express and area tickets. Crossing the park twice for a restaurant off your route can undermine the intended rest. Connect one seated meal, a water break and optional afternoon activities instead of locking two famous restaurants before trying to fit rides around them.
Food restrictions, water and re-entry: do not assume you can leave for lunch
According to the current official FAQ, admission other than annual passes does not allow re-entry. An ordinary day visit cannot simply include lunch at the outside mall, a hotel nap and park return that evening. Plan outside food and shops before first entry or after final departure. Ask staff in advance about exceptional circumstances, not after leaving the gates. Hotel proximity does not change ticket conditions.
Water can be carried in a flask or resealable plastic bottle. Alcohol is prohibited, as are glass bottles, cans and containers that cannot be sealed. Ordinary outside food is not a packed-lunch strategy inside the park. For baby food, young children’s snacks and special dietary needs, the official carry-in rules ask visitors to consult staff. These require individual confirmation, not a statement that all snacks are freely permitted.
For allergies, read the official low-allergen and ingredient information and ask about current meals before joining a restaurant queue. The site explicitly notes possible unintended allergen cross-contact during preparation even when a particular ingredient is not used. Low-allergen, plant-based and entirely free of an ingredient are not synonymous. Write down the ingredients you need to discuss and allow time for questions and preparation, rather than relying on an old menu or online recommendation.
Rain, wind or a temporary closure: preserve a flexible part of the day
Distinguish ordinary rain from an operating change announced by the park. Waterproof outerwear, wet-weather footwear and spare clothes can make a shorter walk more comfortable; still follow attraction rules for umbrellas, storage and riding. The closure page says weather and other causes may prompt changes or cancellation. An indoor ride does not establish that its approach queue, performances or every connecting activity is unaffected.
Read closures for your priorities before buying and check live operations on the day. If a ride pauses, protect the next fixed slot and ask how that ticket should be handled that day. Do not assume a refund, any substitute ride or a new shared time for all companions. A missed attraction can become a meal and rest rather than another longer queue to fill the gap.
A generally noncancelable purchase does not become refundable because a traveler sees a rain forecast. If an admission ticket permits eligible date changes, check each Express and hotel booking too. Changing Studio Pass alone can leave an Express product valid only on the old day. For park closure or a special arrangement, use that date’s official notice and original seller instead of assuming last year’s response applies again.
What a USJ day costs: three examples you can recalculate, not live quotes
Separate admission, Express, park food, city return transport and shopping into five categories, then insert your actual date’s prices. The examples deliberately assume adult admission at ¥10,000, child admission at ¥6,500, city return transport at ¥800 per adult and ¥400 per child—not a quoted specific route. Express is assumed at ¥15,000 each. Replace those cells with checkout prices instead of copying the entire example into your accounts as a guaranteed total.
For two adults without Express, assume ¥3,500 each for food. Admission, meals and return city transport then total 2 × (10,000+3,500+800)=¥28,600. Adding a ¥15,000 Express product for each adds ¥30,000, reaching ¥58,600. For two adults and one eligible child without Express, allow ¥2,500 for the child’s meals: ¥26,500 admission+¥9,500 food+¥2,000 transport=¥38,000. Adding the assumed Express for all three costs another ¥45,000, reaching ¥83,000.
These examples exclude flights, accommodation, accommodation tax, airport or intercity transport, Power-Up Bands, souvenirs, special-show tickets and other extras. No resident-only discount is assumed. If you need a total in Taiwan dollars, use the payment exchange rate and fees; a yen budget is not a fixed TWD quote. If over budget, first remove little-used Express or shopping, then compare the lodging cost of one-day and multi-day visits. Recalculate with fixed and flexible costs in a Japan travel budget for a fuller breakdown.
| Visitors and option | Calculation | Assumed total |
|---|---|---|
| Two adults, no Express | 2 × (10,000 admission+3,500 food+800 city return transport) | 28,600 |
| Two adults, Express each | 28,600+2 × 15,000 | 58,600 |
| Two adults and one child, no Express | 26,500 admission+9,500 food+2,000 city return transport | 38,000 |

Buy-one-get-one offers, date changes and refunds: check eligibility and seller
A search for “USJ buy one get one free” may find the 2026 winter Holiday Kids-Free Pass. From November 13 to December 30, one adult and one eligible child enter together with the child component free; a 12-year-old still in elementary school is included in the child category. Purchasing requires eligibility including residence in Japan and uploading valid official proof of the child’s age. The completed QR email may take about three days. It is not a universal offer for families visiting from overseas or an automatic free child entry alongside an adult annual pass.
For official-site tickets eligible for date changes, use the current WEB ticket rescheduling procedure. Application and the new visit date must fall within the specified period from purchase through the 90th day counted from the day after the original entry date. Not every ticket qualifies, and ticket type, count and adult/child category cannot change. The fee is currently shown as free. Before visiting, check the current price-difference conditions for the new date. Other sales channels have corresponding procedures.
Submitting a request and successfully confirming it are different. Check the purchase record for eligibility, complete the process and verify the result email. An unsuccessful request leaves the original date unchanged; having pressed a button is not enough. Current official instructions use the original admission QR for entry alongside the confirmed date change. Check Express restrictions and package benefits separately. Debit cards, prepaid cards and other payment restrictions also mean not every payment method will necessarily complete a date change.
Before departure: match tickets, phones, people and the return plan
Book a day you can fully use, checking ordinary admission, each person’s Express, area entry, group size and heights before accommodation and important dining. Express generally goes on sale about two months ahead; restaurant priority seating has a separate one-month request timetable. They need different reminders. If unfamiliar with Japan’s tickets and rail connections, use the booking sequence for a first independent Japan trip to place USJ within the whole journey.
The evening before, register everyone’s tickets, update the app and charge devices. Save complete admission and Express tickets, purchase emails, hotel address and return route. Check hours and closures that day, then obtain necessary timed-entry tickets after valid gate scans. Put ticket times somewhere everyone can see. Before splitting up, agree a physical meeting place and what to do if someone is missing. A lost child should seek staff, not walk between areas alone looking for adults.
Before leaving, compare remaining options with the journey back. If another queue would miss a train you have already checked, drop it, use the bathroom, collect stored belongings and head to the station. Families can agree before entry who rests with a tired child and where others reunite, avoiding renegotiation at separate attraction entrances.
A few useful answers
Can Express Pass alone provide USJ admission?
No. You also need a valid Studio Pass or eligible admission ticket. Express applies only to its specified attractions and date and cannot be shared.
Does Express 4 always include Mario and Donkey Kong?
No. Products with the same number have different subtitles and contents, and some slash-separated choices mean only one option. Check the actual product, guaranteed area entry and experience times instead of treating the number as a free choice across the park.
Does skipping Express mean I cannot enter Nintendo?
No. Depending on the day, you may obtain a timed-entry or lottery ticket inside the park through the latest official app, and some periods may allow entry without a ticket. None is guaranteed. If missing the area is unacceptable, buy a product explicitly including guaranteed entry beforehand.
Can I obtain Nintendo timed entry from the hotel?
You can register admission first, but obtaining an e-ticket requires valid same-day tickets scanned through the gates and being inside the park. Register everyone and request tickets together; a successful lottery application is not a winning result.
Does the Nintendo lottery have a deadline?
Current official rules require issuance one hour before the desired entry and stop issuance three hours before closing. Winners are not chosen first come, first served. Issuance may stop or fill on the day; follow the latest app.
Can a child with a child ticket ride Mario Kart?
Age-based admission and ride heights differ. Mario and Donkey Kong require at least 107 cm, with accompaniment for children from 107 cm to under 122 cm. Yoshi requires at least 92 cm and corresponding accompaniment; other requirements still apply.
Is the 2026 winter free-child offer for overseas tourists?
The campaign runs November 13–December 30, 2026, with purchase requirements including Japanese residence and uploading valid age evidence. Adult and child must enter together. It is not a universal offer for all overseas families.
Does an Official Hotel guarantee early entry or a midday room break?
Do not infer that from its name. Early entry and area guarantees must be stated in the package. Ordinary nonannual admission does not allow re-entry under current rules, so a nearby room does not automatically permit a nap outside followed by a return.
Can Kinopio’s Cafe use the ordinary restaurant priority-seating system?
Its current instructions list same-day requests at the restaurant. General priority seating lists Park Side Grille and SAIDO and does not guarantee seats or zero wait. An area ticket does not include a table.
Does rain make admission and Express refundable?
Purchases generally cannot be canceled, with legal exceptions or special park arrangements governed separately. Eligible admission date changes still have conditions; check Express and the hotel individually instead of assuming changing one changes the whole package.
Is ¥28,600 a confirmed total for two adults for one day?
No. The example assumes ¥10,000 admission, ¥3,500 food and ¥800 city return transport per person without Express. It excludes accommodation, flights, airport and intercity transport, shopping and extras. Substitute the actual date’s purchase prices.
Can I bring a suitcase, drinks and a packed lunch?
Suitcases and other large luggage are prohibited; arrange storage first. Water can use a flask or resealable plastic bottle; alcohol, glass bottles, cans and unsealed containers are not permitted. Ordinary packed lunches are not for eating inside; ask staff about baby food or special needs.
